Crumbling of concentrated
particles such as minerals or pelleted feeds into smaller more uniform
particles is desirable. This is particularly true in poultry operations,
because the resulting crumbles, are easier to swallow and digest than pellets.
Compared to ground feed, crumbles are granular, relatively dust-free with an
irregular shape.
A one-high unit contains one pair of rolls specially corrugated for crumbling
and does one reduction. Usually a feeder above the rolls is required which
provide more even feeding of pellet & more uniform particles is produced.
One roll usually has a ring cut corrugation while the other has a horizontal
corrugation. The longer the roll, the greater the production capacity.
